⚖️Resolvr ⚖️ - Week 4: The Time for Action

A decentralized bounty adjudication service for the #FOSS community.

Announcing Staged Feature Releases

After last week’s groundbreaking progress on bringing FROST🥶 to the fedimint🔅 protocol, the focus was on the nostr🦩 bounty board experience.

The Resolvr team surveyed the landscape of available bounty services and was struck by the immediate need for a solution. At best, open-source projects are relying on centralized repositories for bounties on sites like GitHub, which exposes them to the risk of censorship and deplatforming (e.g., Tornado Cash), stopping progress in its tracks. At worst, centralized services that purport to escrow funds for bounty makers and takers go insolvent or exit scam their users, siphoning crucial funding from the open-source ecosystem (more on that in a later post).

A decentralized solution can’t wait. That’s why Resolvr will begin shipping features in stages, starting with the nostr🦩 bounty board. The team intends to open the bounty board for alpha testers shortly so that projects and developers can shape the experience to their needs.

TO BE CLEAR: this first stage of Resolvr will NOT have escrow or crowdsourced dispute resolution. Those features are still in early development stages. Rest assured, however, the team is hard at work producing the originally designed service, with the full bounty lifecycle (from posting to escrow to review to payout) realized. But even without those additional features, we believe the open-source community will benefit from a robust, decentralized bounty board right now.

Sign up for the alpha here.

And get your bounties ready.

Progress

  • Nostr🦩 Bounty Board:

    • GitHub credential verification/linking implemented

    • Bounty post form implemented

    • Bounty application/assignment implemented

    • Comments on bounty posts implemented (using fiatjaf’s nocomment)

  • Reviewer Interface:

    • Identified nostr🦩 Zap Polls (NIP69) as potential solution for review panel votes
  • Escrow (₿): Continuing to explore all bitcoin-native escrow options:

  • Alpha tester signup page live!!

  • Branding: applied simplified logos across all platforms

Problems

  • FediMint🔅: Need to bridge decision of review panel (users of webapp) to federation signature (produced by Guardians running mint software) for escrow transaction without having reviewers serve as guardians and run full FediMint🔅 software.

  • bitcoin (₿): more attention needed on escrow system (looking for more bitcoin script 🧙s)

Roadmap Revisions from Week 3:

  • None

Project Roadmap:

  • Build bespoke nostr🦩 bounty board.

  • Fork CelebrityEscrow for bitcoin (₿) escrow

  • Develop fedimint🔅 bounty review coordinator module

    • Tier 1: AI🤖

    • Tier 2: Sorting reviewing developers into jury panels

  • Implement FROST🥶 into fedimint🔅 to sign (₿) escrow transactions consistent with review panel decision and sign nostr🦩 events on behalf of the federation.

  • Build front-end for reviewers to interface with fedimint🔅 coordinator, allowing access to bounty materials, ability to sign votes, and access to earnings.

  • Conduct design research with alpha testers in all roles.
