Tournament Details
Following the successful first edition of the hacking tournament Legends of Lightning, we decided to continue the series by sponsoring the second edition, Legends of Lightning 2.
This edition will see a more ambitious attempt to onboard international developers onto Bitcoin and the Lightning Network, by connecting 5 in-person hackathons worldwide and allowing its participants to iterate over their projects in sight of the final demo day (17th December)
Submissions end on December 10th!
Why
In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, Bitcoin and the Lightning Network are becoming instrumental in shaping the future of financial transactions. Strengthening and scaling this paradigm shift necessitates not just knowledgeable developers, but also those who can apply this expertise to devise innovative, practical solutions. This hackathon is designed to offer a platform for skilled developers to exhibit their proficiency and creativity in building with Bitcoin. It's a stage to showcase their adeptness in not only navigating the intricacies of the Bitcoin development ecosystem, but also their ability to leverage this knowledge to construct tangible, innovative solutions.
What is our objective?
Our aim is clear and potent: we aspire to enrich the Bitcoin community with a surge of talented, entrepreneurial developers and makers. We are dedicated to showcasing that the Bitcoin ecosystem is primed for substantial innovation, effective collaborations, and sustainable growth. It's a fertile space ready to nurture and bring to life the diverse and impactful ideas from its community.
We envisage this hackathon as a beacon, attracting more founders to explore Bitcoin. We intend to immerse them in the essential principles of Bitcoin and Lightning, enlightening them about the critical challenges that need to be surmounted to achieve scalability.
However, our ambitions transcend beyond developing technical literacy. We want to catalyse Bitcoin's adoption by endorsing it as a real-world problem-solving tool. We are vested in cultivating a generation of problem-solvers and pioneers who can demonstrate working prototypes of Bitcoin applications, prototypes that are more than concepts - they are ready for investment and primed to contribute to Bitcoin's evolution.
In summary, our mission is to cultivate a dynamic, diverse, and inventive community of Bitcoin developers, entrepreneurs, and visionaries. We believe in the power of Bitcoin to shape our digital future and are committed to exploring its limitless potential.

FAQs
How will projects be judged?
Projects are evaluated on 7 criteria. For each criteria, judges can give a score between 0-10. The scores will then be averaged out and summed up to give each project a total score out of 70. Projects are then ranked on a leaderboard and given prizes accordingly.
Does my project have to be functional, or can it be a design/prototype?
Makers can submit no-code projects, particularly design prototypes. Not being able to code should not dissuade you from entering the tournament, especially since we have some design awards on offer! However, the judging criteria will favor projects which have been successfully executed, including code.
How can I find other makers or projects to team up with?
You can see a list of makers who are open to connect in the tournament’s Makers tab. You can also search for projects that are looking to recruit members.
This is my first time hacking on bitcoin, is there any help?
We collected some awesome design, development, and project management resources here to get you up and running. You can also watch workshops and tutorials from BOLT🔩FUN’s previous tournaments on our YouTube channel.
How does posting weekly updates affect judging?
We want to encourage people to build in public, and share their journey with the community. Projects which submit weekly reports showing their progress during the tournament will score highly in Transparency, one of the core judging criterias.
How can I #BuildInPublic?
Using BOLT🔩FUN Stories ✍️, makers can transparently document their project’s design, development, and management processes. This will help other makers learn from one another, decreasing esseential onboarding and learning time, whilst inspiring more great bitcoin apps to be built and innovated on.
Can I submit multiple projects?
Yes, makers can submit multiple projects. However we encourage makers to focus on quality rather than quantity.
Is it lightning only?
In short, no. Makers can build and enter projects that use on-chain technology. However, it is worth bearing in mind that judges will have a keen eye on the scalability of projects, which will naturally be in favor of lightning.
Can I submit a project that I hacked on during another event?
Makers can submit their projects from other hackathons, events, and meetups that are held between the dates of our own tournament. You can even find some of these hackathons and builder days on the tournament’s Events page. This allows makers to take advantage of IRL + online meetups, workshops, hackerspaces, inspirational weekend events, and more.
