What is MBL?

MBL PPP Week 2: The What

Our team has been slow to start due to some login issues now in the past. To catch up it is important we define ourselves and our goals. So this week for us is all about the What.

What is MBL?

Meter by Lightning - Settlement of Oil and Gas custody transfer via Lightning Network

What do we want to do?

Enable smart metering systems with the ability of financial settlement via the Lightning Network.

What is done?

We have designed a POC codebase, tested the components, and assembled a board of advisors.

We are currently using Voltage to manage Lightning transactions for our users (thanks to Mario and the Vibe Energy Systems team for helping us secure this partnership).

What do we need to do?

We need to find a developer, to help us with uur first API Integrations. Our POC would use either Strike which uses Oauth 2, or OpenNode which uses standard API keys. So Oauth is arguably ‘better’ in the long run, however, OpenNode has better documentation and seems more mature. Strike supports more languages, and OpenNode basically javascript so it's the easier path, but if we want it done right, Oauth2 may be the correct solution.

So there is the first task would be, building an invoicing codebase for our MBL Devices to generate BOLT invoices by two devices and paying the matched invoice on behalf of the purchasing party after the system verifies the invoices fall within a threshold.

To-Dos

  • Integrate Fiat Ramp APIs for our application

  • Integrate Lightning BOLT standards and product price oracles to generate invoices

  • Research other technologies we can integrate to improve accounting deliverables

  • Begin design of UI/UX for end-user application

Achievements

  • Completed POC platforms and APIs selection.

  • Created documentation as a guide for building POC.

  • Secured Gas Meter and Flow Computer as well as how to extract volume data

  • Finished v1 system designs

  • Designed our project's logo.

Issues

  • We need a developer to help us write the code to run our first "desk trial" with the actual hardware.

  • We are still looking for more alternatives to OpenNode and Strike as we would like to test out many options and choose the best one.
