UNS on Nostr

Universal Namespace Intro
(The Plaid for Identity)

Enables builders (i.e Nostr Clients) to externalize user onboarding and allow their users to get a unique portable and interoperable username (universal name) which can be used across multiple platforms who has integrated UNS onboarding API.

How does it work for the user?

  1. UNS API enables user authentication through phone verification using OTP through SMS.

  2. Users will be able to search/select a unique name and attached.

    1. self-declared data (full name, date of birth, address, biography, etc.)

    2. connections, (existing accounts they own, like gmail, social media accounts, wallets, etc.). This is there Nostr Public Key would be displayed.

    3. Both self declared data and connections can be hidden, masked or public.

  3. Your universal name can be searched across platforms (The yellow pages of usernames).

Once a Nostr client integrates UNS, the users will be able to real-time control and manage their name among other platforms who work with UNS.

Current companies and projects working with us:

What can you do with the API?

  • Integrate UNS Onboarding on your product via the API

  • Attach a connection.

At NostRica hackathon, we deployed a Nostr relay which enables the following:

  1. When a user adds a UNS Relay at his Nostr Client, the profile's public data stored on UNS will be displayed in the Nostr-client profile: Name, username, bio, picture, NIP05, twitter account, etc.

  2. When a user adds a UNS Relay at his Nostr Client, and if the Nostr Client supports NIP12; a user will search and find any match on UNS names and connections made public (https://explorer.universalname.space)

Currently we are expanding the documentation to make it easier for developers to understand how it works. To read more about it check the docs:
