Small update on the current state of the Jukebox Bot + Noderunners Radio

Recently it became easier for getalby users to use the web-interface of the Jukebox Bot.

Additionally, we have someone looking into the podcasting 2.0 spec and advising us on how best to proceed. Here are some take aways from that, keeping in mind the endgoal of fairer v4v in a FOSS world.

  • Right now, whooever makes the coupling with the bot can set a /price
The current default is set to:
    /price 21 7
Meaning a track costs 21 sats. 14 go to the admin coupling their player to the bot and providing the tunes. And 7 go to our hardware upkeep for the Noderunners Radio (that will serve as a test-bed for new functionality) and, should funds remain, to a dev. fund.

  • Now, as we move to v4v, we plan on adding an ammount for the end artist where we can.
Because this is FOSS, the one running the jukebox decides. Listeners can decide where to spend their sats in the end. The thinking is, things will find an organic balance overall.
How it exactly will turn out.. eh, who can tell. But we feel this is an improvement over incumbent systems. Are we there yet? Hell no. Lots of work to be done. But we have a start, and that is something.

  • In colab with some bitcoin musicians, we are actively persuing a demo. Will update once we have a working proof of concept.

If this makes sense, and you want to help, or know folks that can help, you know what to do I guess. If it does not make sense, and you see where we're going wrong or can do better during this process, do let us know. We are figuring it out as we go for ~80% of the way, if not more.

The rough picture is there. Now to best proceed depends on the feedback we get from the peers building within and without the various projects. It is all voluntary and donation based as it stands now and we don't see how it can be different in a FOSS dominated and more egalitarion world. Right now, we would like to first focus on further modularizing the bot and what it can hook into.

We believe this approach makes sense in our current, rappidly changing, world.

The radio is the project the bot sprung from. We will use it as the test-bed and showcase for the bot.

As things progress we expect to see these projects separate out from each other more, although never fully detatching. The goal of the Radio will remain to be the first ever bitcoin powered radio station where the pleb is the DJ and the musicians have a better chance of being failry rewarded. We hope it will set an example for others to follow as things progress. We envision a world where it might be possible for small radio stations to use this model to bootstrapp themselves.

I've been planning to do a writeup on how we will try and strive for transparancy while we work on further improvements. Right now, I'm still pretty busy on another side-project, but expect that to be completed somewhere in december. So I hope to do better writeups on the current state of things, and the rough path we see forming before us, once that is completed.

Let us know your thoughts and if we are making sense or not.

Thank you for bearing with us.

_Post Sript:

Some future, as of yet, still mostly sci-fi stuff, we have been contemplating:_

  • It might even be possible for AM/FM to silently transmit the state of the Bitcoin Network along with the music?

  • Imagine you hasing your latest musical creation and timestamping it to the time-chain. Could we somehow use this in an automated way for musicians to, in the future proof they are the creators of the work, and this automate part of how sats are suggested to flow over the FOSS jukebox to endpoints?

This is still sci-fi for know, as we need more folks with the correct know to look at the details to see if we are bonkers, or if it might be feasible someday._

Additionally, a massive shout-out to LNbits! The bot uses it in the back and this would not have been possible without them and their hard work!
