Projects are live! 🚀

When I started building products 5 years ago, I didn’t know where to start. I had an idea for a simple web app, but I didn’t have a community of like-minded makers to learn from and share my blockers with. How was I to find the best place to begin? What technologies to use? What type of backend to implement? Best UX practises? It was all so foreign and felt quite intimidating. It still is at many points.

Fast forward a few years, and my attention had shifted to bitcoin/lightning only projects. I wanted to play, experiment, learn, and build lightning applications to help drive innovation and adoption on bitcoin’s application layer. But where do these apps live? Who’s building them? How are they built? Again, I found some dead ends pretty pronto, and I had to do A LOT of digging. In bitcoin, this often involves turning over every rock of shadowy corners at the far reaches of the internet, bugging developers and PMs for their golden nuggets of insights into lightning app development.

This was what inspired BOLT🔩FUN. There wasn’t a single place for bitcoin makers to discover, build, and showcase their professional or side projects. No app stores, community developer hubs, resource aggregations, or guides. Slowly this is changing, and now you can be part of the movement too with Projects🚀.

Build your project on BOLT🔩FUN

Whether your project is new or decades old, you can now add it to BOLT🔩FUN’s project directory and showcase it to the world. To gain recognition from the maker community, you can #BuildInPublic by writing stories about your project’s most recent updates, releases, and blockers. You can also onboard and add your team members, or hunt for new ones as you develop your projects and drive innovation on bitcoin and lightning!

You may also notice that each project now has its own dedicated page! We thought this was only fitting for growing projects, ones that add new makers to their team, and post about their journeys as they #BuildInPublic.

Makers can also now tag their projects in their stories, which is a huge step towards helping our users build their projects out in the open. Tagged projects in stories will display this as activity on their project’s page.

List your project

Makers can easily add their projects to BOLT🔩FUN’s directory by clicking the 'Submit project' button on the right-hand card (on the Projects page). Makers can then enter their project details, add their team, and launch their project to the maker community!

Get started in 3 easy steps...

i). Make your project stand out 🚀

Add the following details to your project and make it stand out to the maker community:

ℹ️ The Basics

Name, Logo, Cover Image, Tagline, Description (480 characters max). These should all be fairly straight forward...

🏷 Project Tag

Tags allow you to mention your project in stories, or across other platforms like Discord. You can change your project’s tag, however, existing links to your project will no longer work and should be updated on external sites.

🔗 Links

Allow makers to find your project online, or take part in external comms in channels like Slack, Discord, or Github.

🌈 Category & Capabilities

Let makers know what type of app you've built and what tech you're using to build it.

📷 Screenshots

Show off your app by providing some screenshots and visuals.

ii). Add your team ⚡️

Make sure you add or onboard other team members so they can help you manage this project and its development progress. To be listed as a maker on a project, they will first need to create a profile on BOLT🔩FUN.

🤝 Recruit new makers

You can also recruit team members by listing what roles are currently open in your project. This will also help you match with suitable makers that have the skills you need during tournaments like #LegendsOfLightning!

iii). WIP 🛠 vs Launched 🚀

Whether your project is a Work In Progress (WIP) or launched, we want to see it in BOLT🔩FUN's directory. WIP 🛠 labelled projects will also be a great sign for makers to find ways in which they can help you push towards your launch date.

BOOM, your project is live! Now you can go ahead and #BuildInPublic by tagging it in your posts ✍️

Enter your project in #LegendsOfLightning 👊⚡️

To enter your project into the #LegendsOfLightning tournament, go to this page and click 'Add Project'. From here you can select which project you wish to enter, along with the relevant project track (for more information on tracks, read this story).

New to this? Here's a quick guide to get started...
