One card to create them ALL
Problem: Integration of the MANY tools for interacting with bitcoin requires going to many different sources to acquire them AND there are no guidance available to help coordinate them into a cohesive whole.
Imagine if you wanted to add on a room to your house, but there was no Home Depot and no architectural plans available, no standardized building codes, and finding the tools, materials, and training with them required doing your own research online, while 1,000s of bad ideas, badly designed tools, and shoddy materials out there creating noise preventing you from finding quality signals guiding you on how to do so. This is the current state of the Bitcoin and the "crypto" industry. This is the equivalent of having to find your saws at one location, your saw blades, at another, your wood somewhere else, and your nail, screws, and nail/screw guns at yet other locations.
How many professionals could pull this off, let alone amateur DIY builders...?
Sure, doing your own research is essential, but the knowledge gap that must be crossed to get new amateur and professional builders up and running is enough to keep most from even making the attempt. So they continue to live in the rotting, badly designed, poorly manufactured and assembled Fiat 'gilded cages' the majority of the world has been stuck in.
Solution: Offer new and existing Bitcoiners a programmed NFC card that can receive V4V earnings, payments from peers, and provides new accounts on the multiple applications, platforms, and protocols that have become available over the last couple of years.
These NFC cards can be self programmed or ordered with custom branding from Bolt Card (as only one current solution at the moment). Here's an article written years ago before many of today's projects even existed suggesting how one could self program one of these cards to both send and receive LN sats through the LN Bits project. Nowadays we have Voltage providing cloud node services that make it easy to self host our own LN Bits instance making this even more secure than was available at the time this was written. They integrated only the LNURL Pay and Withdraw links in badges for this event.
My proposes solution offers even more value by using NOSTR and the Nip 05 identifiers already integrated into Vida, Fountain, and Alby to provide not only send/receive functionality, but also account authorization and earning capabilities to these NFC cards. Just as the badges at the 2021 conference had a paper card that went with it providing the pay/withdraw LNURLs, I'm proposing that the account info for NOSTR and the Vida, Fountain, and Alby accounts be printed up, as well as included on the card, which even on the simplest DIY versions can have this information protected by a password protecting the card,. This password can also be included on the accompanying card, along with a link to an instructional video teaching the users how to safely use these cards, the limitations of them, and disclose the risks of them.
Another more secure DIY version of these cards is described here: self-sovereign contactless LN payments
While for event hosts that want to provide branded cards with greater security and custom images, even with 'laser eyes" that light up when paying, using the Bolt Card solution can provide an even better security and user experience... as they're demonstrating already in Brazil. LN contactless interoperability
This link demonstrates the laser eyes feature on "business cards" being used with an Ibex Pay card reader laser eyed business card
For this hackathon though, I'm going to rely more on obscurity for security, by repurposing an NFC card from a retro arcade, so it's not obviously a bitcoin wallet. I will be programming the card to contain the account information for a dedicated NOSTR, Vida, and Fountain account, and printing up a separate card containing all the pertinent access and recovery information on these accounts, as well as a link to a a Lightning Video account set up to receive V4V satstreams from recorded video content I upload there.
These cards initial use case, as I foresee it, is to provide them to in person audiences for live music events. The event host, or musician, can then upload the audio recordings onto Fountain, that the audience members can then clip and promote to earn themselves LN sats on the split payments provided through their Fountain account. They'll also be able to use the integrated LN Address to receive payments directly into the card for ongoing loading and spending.
I see these being useful for cross promotion between multiple Lightning projects providing additional sponsorship opportunities for live music events and conferences/meet ups, businesses, and private membership clubs. These cards can then become a collectible, just as band t-shirts and baseball cards have been used for decades, while providing more than just sentimental value. They'll provide not only real world use for spending LN sats in real life, but also become a receptical for ongoing income off their split payments.
I'm also seeing these as a potential bonus reward for audiences that contribute to live recordings of the shows they attend. As they can be programmed to receive small percentages of split payments cascading through LN Bits wallets as listeners boost the podcasts on Breez and Fountain. For the live broadcasts of these shows they can incentivize the audience to share the Vida link to the show with all their networks, allowing for live streamed audio/video feeds immediately providing streaming LN sats into the audience's NFC tickets. Potentially allowing them to earn back the cost of their ticket even before the show has ended.
Summery: Imagine if you will, hundreds of fans being brought into the Bitcoin ecosystem all at once, provided NOSTR accounts enabling them to begin communicating in a self sovereign manner earning Zaps into their card, while incentivizing them to support their favorite music venues and performers by clipping the podcast recording they can then share on their legacy social media and NOSTR accounts.
Now imagine this happening every weekend at multiple venues in multiple cities worldwide. And this is just the 1st use case I can envision, no doubt many more will be implemented over the coming years, that I/we can't even dream of right now.
One card to rule them all, one card to find them, one card to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.
What's in your wallet?
Smart money will have a Stream Card!
They will also have URL virtual versions too, (as found below) to go along with the already functional digital version seen above, AND the soon to arrive physical NFC Stream Cards...
