Nutstash newsletter: #4 Printing money at the BKK Bitcoin Conference

As I was preparing the ecash workshop for the rightshift Bitcoin Conference 2023 , An old idea came back to my mind.

What if we print our own ecash notes? Pysical Digital cash???

I have already played around with creating cashu "banknotes" at this point, but it was more a proof of concept than anything.

What I needed was an easy method to print ~200 cashu notes, so I could hand them out to the participants of the workshop. I did what an open source dev would do. I wrote an app for that: brrr.gandlaf.com

This small stateless webapp leverages the cashu-ts library and was built in no more than 3 hours... That's pretty crazy!!

It allows you to connect to any cashu mint out there, choose what your notes should be denominated in, and how many you'd like to print, gives you a lightning invoice to pay for the combined amount, and BOOM! Off we print!

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Try to scan these! they are official backed by the mint https://8333.space:3338 (not meπŸ˜‰).

This app allowed me to easily print as many ecash notes as I needed. Now you Try it! Connect with your own mint, and become an ecash-note-issuing-central-bank! (christine will be proud of you!) Or alternatively connect with someone elses mint, if you trust them.

At the workshop, we went through the slides of my presentation. About ~150 people came to learn about ecash+bitcoin that day! After the slides, it was time to try the freshly printed ecash notes on the nutstash.app wallet.

Thank good I preppared enough notes!

All in all, the workshop was super fun, a lot of good questions came from the audience, and it was a great opportunity to educate the thai bitcoin community on the pros and cons of ecash.

Nutstash?

Nutstash also got some love. The soon to be released version lives now at https://alpha.nutstash.app . Before the workshop, I (barely) managed to finish the unified sending screens.

I think it's starting to look pretty good now! Still a lot of work ahead, but we're making progress!

If any readers were attending the workshop in at the Bangkok Bitcoin Conf, I would appreciate your feedback. feel free to tweet, dm, or join our telegram: https://t.me/+DRy-rSe5wQtlYTk1
