⚡️LNDg.xyz UX Update
We spent time analyzing the existing LNDg user interface and writing what we find intuitive vs. what could benefit from further clarification for a user; there’s room for improvement. There are over 159 fields on the Overview page which is a lot to take in. At a minimum providing a clear explanation of the purpose for each of the fields will help a new user – we can improve pretty much all of the field descriptions and provide the users with things like tooltips. Below is the spreadsheet for your reference. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Hxvw8vpwmqFsb67EtoGtRAjUH_h0Q2rIOrhn-ROL9D4/edit?usp=sharing
Another subject that came up while brainstorming was our overarching goal…which at the highest level is to increase the accessibility and user base for the lightning network. One of the things that jumps out across the majority of self-custody lightning node management products that I’ve come across is how high the bar is on technical bitcoin and lightning knowledge to be able to set up your node and channels. Not to mention what is required to create a channel that actually has significant transaction throughput. One of the personas that don’t seem to be very well supported today is a non-technical user. Someone that believes in bitcoin and wants to run their own bank at home. We look at other mobile banking apps at the moment that we use in our personal life for banking that could give us ideas we could leverage for a redesign of the front-end of the LNDg lightning app.
Taking inspiration from everyday banking apps and designing a new experience for non-technical people interested in taking ownership of their own finances can be definitely a great way to bring this project forward.
Let’s re-imagine LNDg as a personal banking app where users sign up to manage their own finances (before managing the lightning node) by simplifying LNDg UX/Ui considering traditional banking apps interfaces (i.e.: for the sending/receive/savings functionalities)
With time users will get familiar with the lightning network and nothing exclude that more functionalities (related to the node management) can be released/activated when the user is comfortable with it.
Adoption of lightning/bitcoin can be increased simply by different types of users will have access to more/less information/functionalities depending on their technical understanding of the infrastructure.
We analysed what came out of the crazy8 and recognised the importance of the Settings page…. and from there we started.
The overall result 👇 of the crazy8 + translations using the BitcoinUiKit also considers the existing LNDg setting page, considerations during the Designthon and the UX research results achieved with @Mo where we translated all the previous work into a design.
Trying out something for the Advanced settings page.
