Intro Post

Good morning! I’d like to introduce our team and project. We’re a team of 5 members from the small rustic mountain of Berlin in El Salvador (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlín,_Usulután). The team is myself, a foreigner living in El Salvador for 6 months who wanted to escape to a cool mountain town, Evelyn and Gerardo, two Salvadorians who came to this town to teach a Mi Primer Bitcoin class at the high school but stayed to start a circular economy, and Edwin and Fredi, two young gentleman who were former students of the Mi Primer Bitcoin class.

As part of the efforts to bring sats into the local economy we came up with the idea to offer Spanish conversation practice sessions online. These have existed for years on sites like Preply.com and Italki.com, which are great platforms that I myself used extensively to learn Spanish, but they take a 30% cut from the teachers. Why not do those p2p directly from budding Bitcoiners helping other Bitcoiners learn Spanish? Thus was born (3 weeks ago!) Berlin Bitcoin Spanish - https://bitcoinspanish.my.canva.site.

But there are a couple of initial hurdles. While we have some intelligent potential tutors here, they don’t have experience being Spanish tutors. Because of this we agreed they should start out at around $4 an hour due to inexperience (paid in sats of course!). This is a very low market price compared to the existing platforms, but with time they could raise their ask. In a town where the average worker pay is $10-15 a day, this is great pay and they can easily make $10 a session with experience. We want to get them up to $10 an hour (in sats of course!).

So what’s one part of the puzzle? Creating a curriculum for them to teach. There’s a treasure trove of existing resources on the internet, but we had an idea: Let’s try to have an LLM create a Spanish curriculum, and maybe one that can orange-pill at the same time. And then we heard about the hackathon 2 days later!
