How to #BuildInPublic 💪

What?

Building in public is an open and transparent process of reporting on a project's progress while work is on-going. Using a mixture of weekly checkins (PPPs), milestones (larger epics), and casual photo posts or video logs, makers can document their project's development out in the open for the rest of the community to see, learn from, and support.

Why?

When projects are built behind closed doors, it's hard for makers and entrepreneurs to understand what are the key factors that drive a project's success or failure. Sharing these stories and building in public aligns with bitcoin's open-source ethos, and incidentally helps build a community of makers who can easily share knowledge and key findings with one another, contributing to a innovative and friendly ecosystem where other makers can be onboarded and learn about bitcoin and lightning.

TLDR;

  • Helping yourself and others to build great bitcoin and lightning projects

  • Driving engagement and inclusivity within the maker community

  • Increasing the number of bitcoin and lightning developer resources, documentation, and tools

  • Sharing blockers with others is a faster and cost effective way of finding solutions for your project or team

How?

Throughout the #LegendsOfLightning tournament, we are incentivising makers and teams to #BuildInPublic and share their project's progress as they go. This will be done using BOLT🔩FUN's Stories ✍️ feature. Makers can post:

🚦 Weekly Check-ins (PPPs)

Every week, members of your team should write a list of their Plans, Progress, and Problems (PPPs) as a form of standup reporting. This allows other team members to track your activity and progress, as well as any blockers you might be facing, providing transparency and insight into your team's work routine. You can find an example of this type of post here.

For the #LegendsOfLightning tournament, we ask makers to post their weekly PPPs by Monday each week. If makers would like to post more than once a week, this is also welcomed and encouraged.

🗿 Milestones

Milestones are posts that outline larger bodies of work, or "epics". This might be a new feature release, a UI upgrade, or a bundle of issues completed on Github. You can find an example of this type of post here.

Once the projects feature has been launched, makers will be able to tag their project's in their stories. These will then appear on the project's page and be used to evaluate a project's progress and activity throughout the #LegendsOfLightning tournament.
