As of 13 October 2023, Nostr Assets is thrilled to announce the first Nostr Protocol native Bitcoin & Testnet for Taproot Assets is now live! Nostr users now have the freedom to send, receive, or trade any amount of Bitcoin using their Nostr accounts, with all the convenience of natural language commands on Nostr frontend clients like Damus, Amethyst, Iris, and more.

Launch of First Nostr-Native Bitcoin

By leveraging Lightning Network and utilizing a backend process known as the Nostr Assets Daemon, users can securely deposit their Bitcoin via a Lightning wallet (eg. Alby Wallet) onto their Nostr account.

Why is this such a big deal? Well, let us break it down for you:

• Users can transfer any amount of Bitcoin using only their Nostr account, eliminating the need to generate another invoice

• This is a fundamental step towards enabling the development of more complex trades or transactions in the future, paving the way for the creation of business-centric Nostr apps.

• Nostr Protocol’s high TPS performance is ideal for fast transactions and executing decentralized business logic.

This achievement is a major milestone for Nostr Assets’s vision to build a robust decentralized trading infrastructure on the Nostr Protocol. It opens a new door of opportunities, offering Nostr users a censorship-resistant way of exchanging Bitcoin within the Nostr Ecosystem without the need for a UI button. Through the chat interface of Nostr clients, users can enter simple chat commands to transfer Bitcoin to a single user or multiple users.

And that’s not all! We’ve even thrown in an address book feature that allows you to label Nostr public keys with shorter nicknames, making transfer commands even simpler to execute.

Rest assured, all transaction history is recorded and visible to the public on the Nostr Assets Explorer.

Once these Testnet assets are imported to the NostrAssets Assets List, users can enjoy swift and smooth digital asset transfers among fellow Nostr users.
