Devstr Pitch

Nostr is the missing piece for Bitcoin/Lightning/Nostr (Value Store/Payments/Social Network). Nostr will ‘Orange Pill’ the world.

But Nostr needs developers. Devstr’s mission is to grow and educate the Nostr Dev Community. And we are doing it in Nostr (plus a few web pages).

We started on March 9, 2023, and launched on March 14, 2023. We bought the domain name devstr.org, developed a website, acquired the NIP5 addresses devstr@nostrplebs and nostrica@nostrplebs, played with all the Nostr clients, and a few other things lost in history. We then experimented with different approaches to achieve our mission. And we launched Nostr relay nostrica.nostrnotes.com.

We spent March 19-21 remotely covering Nostrica 2023 Unconference in Uvita, Costa Rica, using Nostr. Check out our Nostrica coverage in Nostr.

We posted over 200 notes and learned a ton, which we are adding to Devstr.

We experimented with all the Nostr clients, and Devstr works with them all. It looks best with Nostrgram.com

We immediately recognized the need for both Nostr and some web pages for more static information, so we launched a website at https://devstr.org.

We used Dall-E to generate some logos.

The approach is to move seamlessly back and forth between static web pages and Nostr Notes. That is the role of the Big Blue Buttons.

Each web page has its own Nostr Notes feed. The web page holds static content, and Nostr holds dynamic content. We learned that nearly all Nostr client support #hashtags after a fashion, so we implemented one #hashtage for each page and one web page for each #hashtag.

So there is a Relays page https://devstr.org/relays and a Nostr hashtag #devstrRelays. There are also # hashtags/pages for; News, Clients, Relays, Resources, Jobs, and Events.

We were able to extend this concept to build a Nostr Jobs Board in Nostr. Anyone can post an available Job in Nostr with the tag #devstrJobs, to which anyone can find and apply. We are inordinately proud of this simple, elegant solution!

All these Devstr functions work in all Nostr clients.

The web pages have embedded spreadsheets covering Nostr clients, relay software, and relay instances that we are able to enhance, update and maintain easily. Given the highly dynamic nature of the Nostr environment, our ability to quickly update information should be a big advantage.

The final Devstr function we added this week is a Nostr Global Events Calendar. In addition to supporting the #devstrEvents tag, we created a real calendar system based on Google. Anyone can add an event to the calendar by sending a Google Style Invite to [email protected]. You can delete or edit it anytime.

You can add the calendar to your Google calendar (recommended). You can also view the calendar in any browser.
