Dev's log: Calling an audible

It's been a crazy final week for team StackorSpend!

When we found out that we were selected as finalists last week we were thrilled at the opportunity.

There was just one problem. We were falling behind on some of our building activities, and specifically our mobile build wasn't coming together as planned.

At the 11th hour, we made the call. After a small team re-configuration, we pulled together our own mini hackathon and were able to go from zero to mobile app prototype in just one weekend!

Moving at speed

The challenge this weekend was, how do we pull together this entire app with just a few hours each in just two days. Luckily, we had been working on separate domains of things for weeks now, and the only thing left to do was to implement both designs and business logic that had largely already been figured out.

Our first task was to tackle the likely riskiest part of the build: pulling in the sos "backend".

This task immediately presented us with problems first on the import of the code, and then on figuring out how to access SQLite via React Native. These were fairly isolated problems, and myself and Tony were able to take this on without having to get in Andel's way.

For Andel's bit, he was in charge of making Chris's Figma designs come to life in the app. We gave him some sample data/objects and left him to his own devices, and screen by screen we saw things coming together pretty quickly.

By the 2nd day when we had figured out (big refactor!) the SQLite stuff, most of the screens were ready and we simply had to plug the two in together and voila, the app worked!

Since then it's mostly been bug-fixing and polishing off the looks of things for both Android and iOS.

Final touches

We're now putting the final touches on things. It's not quite ready to put in an end user's hands just yet, but it's a great first look at what we're planning to build out and deliver to our target folks to help supercharge their bitcoin stacking and spending habits.

Shoutout to Andel and Tony who jumped in for the hack! Check out some of our work here, and look out for demo videos tomorrow when we do our final pitches to the judges 😉
