Badges - Design Journey

Hey fellow makers!

We've got something cool to share with you. We've been hard at work on the new badge feature, in the spirit of building in public, and I'm excited to introduce our designs!

Badge types

We've got two types of badges - one-time and incremental. These badges celebrate both unique milestones and your ongoing dedication. When you spot these badges on maker profiles, they represent our sense of community, achievement, and the endless possibilities within our platform. As our community grows, we'll keep rolling out new badges to make every maker's journey even more rewarding and inspiring.

Design process

Now, let's dive into my design journey. I'm taking you through all the phases of the process, from those initial ideas to the final versions. One thing that caught our eye was the continuous appearance of the bolt shape across our platform.

The initial designs were intriguing, but they didn't quite match our visual style. I experimented with 3D elements and emojis, which we're big fans of, but it didn't quite click. The 3D finish just didn't align with our brand.

So, we decided to explore further, using various AI tools to gather inspiration. Simplifying our designs was the key. I drew inspiration from some goofy cartoon designs and started connecting the dots. The magic solution turned out to be cell shading, and that's how our badges came to life. 😄🎨
